Doing it Right - Justin and Mary Tie the Knot!

Justin and Mary Marantz (formerly Mary Bess), good friends and fellow wedding photographers, got married this past weekend and asked me to second shoot with David Jay. I didn't find out till 2 days before that Becker would also be joining us and what a blast it was to hang with these 2 respected west coast photographers. Sara Barlow from Chicago also joined in on the fun.

Justin brought this old 4x5 camera and I couldn't resist creating this image of Justin with the groomsmen. The old camera is on the pavement and I focused on the viewing glass.

Aren't these the ultimate cufflinks for photographers? Justin special ordered them from a store in London, and gave them as gifts to his groomsmen.

Check out how excited Mary is to say "I DO!!!!"

Here are some of the shots I got during the portraits. Working next to DJ and Becker was incredibly fun and it was cool to see how they work.

Cameras were everywhere! The groom's cake was shaped like a camera, the guest list was comprised mainly of pro-photographers with their own cameras, even the place-cards had cameras.

Thank you J&M for asking me to be such a part of your day. Your families are beautiful and I loved meeting all the CT PUG-ers! I wish I could have stayed later to party. See you this weekend in NYC!

This wedding has been really fun to follow on all the blogs. It's been such a unique experience to see how you all approached the same wedding with different perspectives. The reflection of the church in the car rooftop is absolutely brilliant. And I love the image captured in the ground glass. Your images are gorgeous. What a lucky couple! They are going to need an entire bookcase for the beautiful albums they are sure to need.

These are truly awesome - my favorites of all I've seen so far! The photo through the old camera is so unique and so Justin. The detail shots are so tight - banging! The angle as they are coming out of the church simply amazing - what a shot. It was such a pleasure to meet you - can't wait for business boot camp and to meet Enna. Take care and good luck with the move!

Hey look at this, you guys are making me blush! I've been loosing my mind today being pulled in every direction at once (moving, 2 boys, dog, Enna has a cold, a ton of editing to do and I have to get ready for several shoots in NY this weekend) and finally have a chance to log on and see all these wonderful comments. Thank you all so much.

Carla, I'm gonna have to get a "WPJA Nikon Man" shirt. Love it.

Jag, I'll have the Ta-Kill-Ya shots ready for when you visit:) Good luck on the trip and I can't wait to see the new rig.

I'll post more photos later.

peace
~Matt

Hey Matt! We unofficially met at Mary + Justin's wedding (Paul + I were busy burning up the dance floor!- which I'm sure you got some stelluar shots of!) These shots are stunning! I especially love the one shot thru the 4x5 camera. I want to bring our 4x5 or 6x7 with us to weddings now to do some shots like that! Anyway, mine and Paul's gift to Justin + Mary is to design a rockstar wedding book for them, and I'm really looking forward to blending everyone's images into an amazing design! You rock- hope to see you again in NY!

Gorgeous, you guys. I love the one with the flare.

By the way re: your Harry Potter withdrawal, a really good summer book series to get into (and its already over so you can read it all at once) is Stephen Kings "Dark Tower" series. I think it's around 6-7 books too, but it's not typical SK, it's not really horror, more like fantasy/scifi with some macabre moments. Its extremely creative with huge twisting backstory and lots of little stuff to find out along the way about all the characters. The character development is really deep--you get very attached to them. I think a lot of people would put HP in a different category than SK books, and normally I'd agree, but the Dark Tower series is just different. Honestly if you can handle Sectumsempra and what happened to the Bagshot woman in Deathly Hallows, you can probably handle most of the stuff that's in this series.

It was written over a 30 year period, but the last one just came out a couple years ago so you may not have heard about it if you're not normally into King's books. Let me know what you think if you get it.
